Volkswagen is bringing a new mid-size SUV to the lineup by the name of the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. It shares much of its DNA with the full-size Atlas in a slightly smaller, sleeker package. The Atlas Cross Sport is visually more athletic and fun while maintaining the original attractive appearance of its close relative. Those familiar with the Atlas are aware of the 3rd row but is absent on the Cross Sport and the second row replaced with a bench seat to include seating comfortable for 5. It sure displays 2020style and tech with features like advanced LED headlights & LED taillights, panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charger, driver assistance safety, and the impressive Volkswagen Digital Cockpit.
The introductory 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder produces 235 horsepower. The turbo provides a fun and sporty feel with a little extra boost of acceleration.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine has an EPA fuel-economy rating of 21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, coming together for a combined 22 mpg for the front-wheel drive model. The AWD model is a of course a bit less economic with 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and a combined 20 mpg. The fuel economy numbers for the V6 engine have not yet been released so we will have to wait.
The 3.6-liter engine produces slightly more than its four-cylinder counterpart. When equipped with the V6 engine the Cross Sport achieves a faster 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds compared to the 2.0-liter's time of 7.9 seconds.
The interior is quite similar to that of the Atlas with some minor updates and tweaks. Although there is no 3rd row in the Cross Sport there is plenty of room for the whole family and plenty of cargo space for everyone’s belongings. You will find a standard touchscreen infotainment display with the convenience of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to entertain the whole cabin. Keep tabs on the mid-size SUV with the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit offered across the lineup. The system displays information such as driving range, safety features, navigation, phone, compass, altimeter, fuel economy, and of course the speedometer and tachometer.
Stay safe on the road with the latest safety and driver-assistance features by Volkswagen. Standard features include autonomous emergency braking as well as blind-spot monitoring. Purchasing a higher level trim level will unlock more advanced tech like adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.
